We’ve recently received lots of coverage as a case study to show how Create’s use of telematic systems has improved the efficiency of our business.

As one of the UK’s major construction companies, Cowlin Construction are dedicated to ensuring their workforce and subcontractors are fully Health and Safety compliant. As Create’s installation team manager, Andrew Fogg was offered a place on Cowlin’s CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) run by the company at their Bristol offices.

The 5 day course course aims to help site managers and supervisors manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions and develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare, and recognise a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.

We are pleased Cowlin considered Create to be a valued subcontractor and appreciate their dedication in ensuring their supply chain follows good Health and Safety practice.

UK Sign and Digital Awards
Create Signs were runners-up in our category at the 2012 UK Sign and Digital Awards. We were pleased to have been part of the event and the whole evening was a fantastic opportunity to see the very best of what our industry can offer.

New graphic designer joins Create
Create are pleased to welcome a new member to the team – Calum is our new junior graphic designer and is now settled in at his new Mac in the graphics department. Calum is a graduate in Design and Typography from Plymouth University and is ‘really enjoying’ his work at Create. He has already produced a wide array of visuals for clients – from SkatePark logos to Town Hall window manifestations and building development site boards. He certainly won’t be short of variety here! Good luck Calum.

Demand for digital print increases
We are also expecting another addition to the team shortly, a new large format digital printer cutter. We have seen a significant rise in demand for large format print and we will extending our offices to accomodate the new machine in the new few months.

Our signs at Mshed museum in Bristol have been shortlisted for Best Multiple Sign Project at the Sign & Digital UK Awards 2012. The awards recognise and celebrate innovation, creativity and achievements in the UK sign making and digital printing industry.

Create Signs implemented all signage for the building from designs produced by Bath-based heritage specialists SteersMcgillanEves. The museum re-opened in July 2011 after 5 years of refurbishment and has received massive acclaim with visitor numbers exceeding expectations . Create were subsequently delighted to be announced as sign supplier to Bristol City Council later in the year.

The range of signage required for the project was considerable and included digital print, manifestation, banners, large illuminated architectural lettering, wayfinding signs, Braille and tactile signage, display holders and metalwork barriers with graphics. More pictures>

Described as ‘Bristol’s very own Smithsonian’, the Mshed is a museum dedicated to telling the amazing history of the city of Bristol through the objects and stories of the people who have made the city what it is today. As one of the UK’s most innovative and ambitious museum developments, Mshed has been nominated and short-listed for the coveted European Museum of the Year Award 2012.

Create’s commitment to staff training was put into practice again this week when the first session of our Sign Making NVQ course took place at our offices in Bristol. We recognize the importance of our staff being properly qualified so invited Walsall College to help Create employees attain the National Vocational Qualification in Sign Making. The QCF signmaking qualification provides recognition of the skills and knowledge of individuals who work in a signmaking environment and covers health and safety, competence and effective working relationships. The process lasts a year and we look forward to handing out the certificates in 2013.

The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) is a world class award winning research and teaching centre at Aberystwyth University and Create were chosen by the construction firm Willmott Dixon to provide the main entrance signage to the two new buildings at Gogerddan and Penglais. Both buildings have many environmental features including sedum roofs, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation and sustainable timber cladding and were designed to achieve a Breeam rating of Excellent.
Fixing the stainless steel letters to the ventilation louvres of the two storey research building from a mobile elevated platform provided a small challenge to the installation team but the completed signs look very effective.

With 2011 now a distant memory, 2012 got off to a fantatic start with possibly our busiest ever January. We are delighted to have added more construction companies to our client list and welcome BAM, Barwood Developments, Buckingham Group, Dawnus and Midas Construction as clients. We will do our utmost to provide the best possible sign service to all new and existing clients in 2012.

In 2011 Create also became an approved contractor to commercial real estate brokers and consultants Cushman and Wakefield. Assessed by Human Focus for Health and Safety complicance we have passed their Competent Contractor scheme so now have another logo to add to our letterhead!

Bristol City Council have announced that Create Signs have won a contract to supply the council’s signage. The Create team are delighted that the council recognized that the company stood out from the competition and is able to meet the council’s many requirements to deliver a quality sign service.

“Create are able to offer the council an economic, efficient and sustainable sign service and we are incredibly proud that Bristol City Council has recognized that Create are one of the leading sign companies in the South West, able to deliver a first class service to a complex organisation such as the Council”, said Create partner Andrew Fogg. Projects already completed for the Council include some fantastic exhibition graphics for Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.

Working to strict deadlines is what we do and we were working up the wire to make sure the wayfinding and health and safety signs for the first phase of the new north stand at Molineaux Stadium were complete for Wolves’ Premier League game against Tottenham on Saturday. We were delighted to be working with Buckingham Group on the project and hope all continues to go well for the next phase. The fans all seemed very happy with the new facilities too – shame about the score though…
